Nature has always been my sanctuary, and photography gives me a creative way to savor it.
Nature has been central to my life since I was in utero. For as long as I can remember, my brain has been compelled to slow down and take in the details around me when I am outdoors, whether it is backpacking among towering mountains, wandering in the depths of a forest, breathing in the salt air at the coast or marveling at the life to be found in the desert.
Photography allows me to take in the beauty of nature and to savor the connection with something greater than I. Nothing centers me better than spending some time away from man-made sounds and sights and reconnecting with nature.
Photography has always been one of my great loves. It’s one of my favorite creative outlets and has been a huge part of my mindfulness practice. When I am focused on the angle of the Milky Way, the gills of a mushroom, wave sets on the ocean or the behaviors of a grizzly bear, that captures all my attention and the rest of the world fades away. I love to find ways to convey the stories I find in nature through my photographs to my audience. I feel that a solid story can separate a good photograph from a great one.
While nature is my primary muse, I enjoy expanding my photography, experimenting with different genres. I enjoy blending manmade and natural elements creatively.
I have a strong preference for printing my photographs onto metal. Metal brings photographs to life with elegance while offering vibrancy, durability and longevity not offered by most mediums.

I’m a Northern California native, but I have lived in several parts of the US. While the variety of landscapes in California still have a strong hold on my heart, my wanderlust is strong.
Photography has interested me for as long as I can remember. When given the chance at Campfire and Girl Scout camps as a kid, I always opted for photography classes. I took photos of anything and everything, including for my high school yearbook. Most of my money was spent on film and developing. I dreamed of someday having my own darkroom in my home.
I still have my dad’s old Minolta SRT-201, my gateway camera. My current camera is the Sony A7R V.
I am mother to a teenager and licensed as a registered nurse. I am privileged to travel in an RV full time with my wife, Alissa, and our dog, Emma. This gives me countless opportunities to break out my camera.
I also have a YouTube channel and associated website, wanderingswitchback.com, which provide outdoor education and some of my earlier photography content. You can find the stories behind some of my earlier photos on my blog on that site.
